GUCAR AT A GLANCE - Cell Phone Tax Legislation

Legislation has been reintroduced in the U.S. House imposing a five year moratorium on enacting new taxes and fees on cell phone consumers. It is expected that a similar bill will be introduced in the Senate in the next few weeks. Cell phone services are subject to 15.2% in federal, state and local taxes, while the tax rate for most other taxable goods and services is 7.1%. NAR’s Business Issues Committee will discuss the legislation and determine next steps.
